About the district
Organized by Decision of the Executive Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan on August 30, 1930 and Decision of the People's Commissars Council and included in the list of 1st category regions. The district covers 1 town and 93 villages. It was occupied by Armenian military units on 31.08.1993.

The Gubadli region is located in the south-west of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in the southern part of the Garabagh Plateau. The area is 802 square kilometers.
Gubadli borders withthe Republic of Armenia(120 km).Hadrut region (45 km), Lachin, Jabrayil and Zangilan districts of the former Nagorno-Karabakh .The administrative center is the city Gubadli. (It received the status of a city on 24.07.1990) It has 380 km from the town ofBaki to the district center.
The surface is mostly mountainous. The tallest point is Topaghaj. (2010 meters) The Yazi plain (between Bargushad and Hectareeri rivers), southeast of the Garabagh Plateau, is down 450 meters here. There are beds and construction materials in the bed. Climate is mostly mild, warm, dry subtropical. The rivers are Bargushad, Hakari and their branches. Basically, brown mountain-forest lands are spread. There are 13160 hectares of forest areas. Grass and grassy meadows dominate. Animals; wild boar, brown bear, roe deer, monster, jackal, fox, lynx, gray rabbit, suleykin, oxal hedgehog, various sand rats and so on. Birds: eagle, gray mutton, turach, pheasant, quail, stork, etc. In 1966, Gubadli State Nature Reserve was established in the area with 20,000 hectares of land.
